In this week’s issue, following the election, I consider the similarities and differences between political leaders and hospitality leaders. Political leaders must win a vote and then navigate the challenges of governance; business leaders must continuously earn the support of their constituents through performance and strategy. In hospitality, success depends on repeatedly winning the ‘votes’ of guests and staff, investors and many others through every interaction and decision. Unlike in politics, where a leader can secure a term in office, hospitality businesses must earn their mandate daily.
