Last week some newspaper headlines highlighted that rises in wages had started to outpace inflation - and this is a good thing. But it’s a bit like throwing a stone into a pond in an attempt to raise the level of the water. It’s fiendishly difficult to identify any significant change.
In fact, the latest inflation figures showed no change from the month before, but this is probably just a staging post on a trend which will see inflation falling further over the next few months. What does it all mean …
In the numbers, I return to the issue of pay in the foodservice sector. I’ll look at how aggregate pay is changing in response to changing employee levels and average monthly earnings.
